Why You Should Only Buy USDA Certified Organic Baobab Fruit

We have been getting a lot of questions recently about what type of Baobab Fruit to buy.  Quick recap for those of you who are not familiar with the Baobab Fruit options here in the USA…

The Baobab Fruit grows in Africa.  You pretty much can NOT find the actual Baobab Fruit in the USA, instead what you find is Baobab Fruit Pulp Powder or Supplements.  Normally, we are not a big fan of fruit powders or supplements, since once you start processing a fruit and turning it into powder, you lose the nutrients.  However, the Baobab Fruit naturally dehydrates in the shell, so you do NOT need to heat it or process it in anyway to make Baobab Fruit Powder Pulp.  For this reason, you can do very well with a Baobab Fruit Pulp powder, but you still need to do your homework…

If It Is Not USDA Certified Organic, Simply Don’t Buy It

Baobab Fruit is filled with nutrients and that is great for your health, but you want to make sure the fruit is not filled with things that are NOT good for your health.  As Baobab Fruit gets more popular, more fruit is being harvested, and not always in the most pure way.  You obviously don’t want Baobab Fruit that has pesticides or other harmful contaminants in the pulp.

To make sure the Baobab Fruit Powder you get is pure, you need to look at the label and make sure it says -

Made With 100% USDA Certified Organic Baobab Fruit AND NO OTHER INGREDIENTS

You also need to see the USDA Organic Seal on the label -

Organic Seal

By buying Organic Certified Baobab Fruit, you are certain that the product is free of harmful pesticides.

Just The Word Organic On The Label Is Not Enough

You may see some Baobab Fruit products that say “Made with Organic” or “Contains Organic Baobab” or “All Natural” – THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.  A product could have some organic Baobab but then also be mixed with non-organic ingredients.  You need to see the 100% USDA Certified Organic Seal as it means the product really is organic.

Ask Them To Prove It, Words Are Cheap

I wish this step wasn’t necessary, but we have heard too many stories of companies claiming to have organic products, only to find out that was not the case.  Anyone can put an Organic Seal on their label or website and tell you their product is 100% Organic.  You have the absolute right as a consumer to ask to see the lab tests and documents that show their Baobab Fruit product is pure and Organic.

This is exactly why we tell people to get Limitless Baobab when looking for where to buy baobab fruit.  If you look here on the Limitless Good site, you see they have all their certifications and lab work right there for you to see.  Nothing is being hidden, they are totally honest and that is very important when deciding where to buy your Baobab Fruit.

What Makes Baobab Fruit So Super?

If you read our Baobab Fruit article you can see all the incredible nutrients that the Baobab Fruit has to offer. Sure, it has 6x the Vitamin C of Oranges, Double the Antioxidants of the mighty Acai Berry and more magnesium and potassium, ounce for ounce than the bananas – but to us, that is NOT what makes the Baobab fruit a superfruit.

Processing Is Kryptonite To Superfruits!

You see, there are plenty of fruits that have great nutrients…when they are on the tree.  The problem is, most of the so-called super foods that we try are processed.  The fruits are spray-dried or heated to get them from their natural fruit form into a powder or supplement.  It is during this processing that many super foods and super fruits lose their super powers.

Baobab fruit is one of the only fruits that actually dehydrates in the shell!  Take a look at this photo of the Baobab fruit -

Baobab Fruit

See those little white nuggets?  That is actually the Baobab Fruit Pulp.  Inside the shell, the Baobab Pulp dehydrates, so when you crack it open you get these little dry pieces of Baobab Fruit pulp.  To turn the Baobab Fruit pulp into a powder, all you have to do is crush the large pieces.  Absolutely no heat or drying techniques is used.

The fact that Baobab naturally dehyrdates in the shell, this is what makes Baobab Fruit Super!  All of the nutrients remain when you buy a 100% Organic Baobab Fruit Powder supplement that is made with Organic Baobab and no processing.

Is It Also Important to Find Organic Baobab Fruit?

Absolutely yes!  Baobab Fruit needs to be certified Organic, otherwise you can not be sure what chemicals are in the Baobab Fruit pulp.  It may cost a little more, but make sure your Baobab Fruit Powder is USDA Certified Organic.

Buying The Best Baobab Fruit Supplements, Not As Easy As You Think

When it comes to buying the best Baobab Supplements, let’s just say things can get confusing!

Clearly we are big fans of Organic Baobab Fruit and also believe that some of the Organic Baobab powders can be terrific.  Here is the important word in the above sentence – “some“.  Many consumers will make the mistake of going with the least expensive Baobab Supplement, figuring they are all the same.  Nothing could be further from the truth!

Sometimes a Label is Just a Label

After reading our site, some consumers understand that they want to find a Baobab Fruit Powder that is 100% Organic and not mixed with any other ingredients.  This is absolutely a great start and the right way to start to compare Baobab Supplements.  The key point, looking at labels is just the start.

Let’s give a graphic example to explain this..

Here are two apples, in a lovely box, that you can buy…

Apple Box

APPLE #1 – 100% Certified Organic Apple.
Cost – 20 cents

Apple Box

APPLE #2 – 100% Certified Organic Apple.
Cost – 30 cents

Which Apple Would You Buy?

Perhaps you go with Apple #1, as it is 10 cents cheaper and still 100% Certified Organic.  Seems like a reasonable and prudent decision.

Well, let’s take it out of the box and see if you have a different choice….

APPLE #1 - 100% Certified Organic Apple. Cost - 20 cents

APPLE #1 – 100% Certified Organic Apple.
Cost – 20 cents

APPLE #2 - 100% Certified Organic Apple. Cost - 30 cents

APPLE #2 – 100% Certified Organic Apple.
Cost – 30 cents

Of Course You Switch to Apple #2 When The Box is Removed

Saving 10 cents to get a rotten apple obviously does not make sense.  The problem is, you didn’t know the apple was rotten when it was in the box.  This is the exact same problem with Baobab Fruit Supplements – you can’t tell the quality of the Baobab Fruit, just by looking at the bottle!

How Do You Find the Best Baobab Supplements?

Ask questions and demand documents!  We are working on a full review of Baobab Fruit Powders and Supplements, so look for that in the coming weeks.  For now, your best bet is to ask for lab tests and assays that can prove that the Organic Baobab powder in the bottle is still rich in nutrients.

Examine the Lab Assay for any Baobab Fruit Powder you may be thinking of buying.  Does it show a high ORAC level?  Does it show the Baobab tested negative for any harmful ingredients?  Can you see high levels of Vitamin C, Fiber, Potassium and Magnesium in the Baobab Powder?  If not, you should find another Baobab Fruit supplement.

As we said, we are working on reviews of all the Baobab supplements and powders on the market, so stay tuned for more!

How Do You Pronounce Baobab, As In The Baobab Fruit?

Baobab Fruit

Okay, this may be the shortest, yet most important post we do here at Organic Baobab Fruit.  You see, we talk a lot about the Baobab Fruit here – the health benefits, the science, the history – but we might have missed the most important question people always ask -

How Do You Pronounce Baobab?

Sorry to miss the obvious, here you go -

What Does Baobab Fruit Taste Like?

Just a quick post today on a question we get a lot…

What Does Baobab Fruit Taste Like?

It is a great question, and one that is obviously challenging to answer without being able to reach through the screen and give you a taste.  Come on, Google, when are you going to invent Taste enhanced searches :)  Still, we will give it our best shot…

The Tart Taste of Baobab Fruit

Baobab fruit has a tart, somewhat sour flavor.  There is also a strong tropical flavor, almost like a sour Mango.  If you eat the Baobab fruit pulp directly, it can be somewhat dry and gritty.  Remember, 50% of the Baobab fruit is fiber, so it is a dense fruit.

Unfortunately, it is very rare to find the whole Baobab fruit here in the USA.  Still, there is a great alternative and that is Baobab Fruit powder.  The great thing about Baobab Fruit powder is that it is basically identical in flavor and nutrients to fresh Baobab fruit pulp.  You see, the Baobab fruit pulp is dry, almost like coconut pulp.  In order to “make” Baobab Fruit powder, you just need to remove the seeds from the pulp and crush it into a fine powder.  No heat is necessary at all, so it is a very natural process, that retains the flavor and nutrients.

What Does Baobab Fruit Powder Taste Like?

The same as Baobab fruit pulp!  We mix about 6 grams of Organic Baobab fruit powder into water and it makes a delicious, if some what tart drink.  It almost has a tropical lemonade flavor to it.  You can add a touch of honey if you want a sweeter drink, but we find straight Baobab fruit powder and water to be a very refreshing and healthy drink
